advice please
at what point does Mr Browns cronies come looking for VAT 17.5% and duty 10% on a vehile landed in the UK.
Is it before release from port or prior to docking??
Is this paid directly to HM customs, inland revenue or shipping agent?

you will need to use an agent to clear your car,
you won't be able to collect the car till the shippers release it, and they can't release it till the clearers confirm that all duties are paid.
you pay the clearers imp duty and vat and a fee,
they contact the shippers,
and the shippers release the car to you (if you paid them of course)

Is there any way round the 27.5% Tax on import cars? For example, to ship the car to france then drive it back on the channel ferry??

it will still need to be registered, and among other documents, you will need to produce;

original de-registration document (japanese and translation)
declaration of vat and duty form (c&e 389)

so they will know where it is from and if duty is paid.

All of our customers pay the Duty and VAT to the shipping agents.

They handle everything for them.

Less hassle for the customer.

So the only outstanding issues that remain is the timeline of payment{s} to the shippers [or their agent]

Exactly when are

{a} the Vat payments and Customs due to be paid to the Shippers {their agents}

And

{b} when is the first/final/full installment of the shippers payment due to them?

Thanks

TK
