I'm not sure with intra-EU importing, but I think this:
|||||
You must show that it has EC (European Community) Type Approval or its equivalent in that country (a certification similar to SVA in the UK).

A. If you can provide such document that covers all the EC Type Approval requirements (such as noise, emissions, and various safety standards), and an English translation (which may need to be notarized), along with registration documents and any other documents or

B. If you can't provide such document, you must go through SVA just like imports directly from Japan. You'll need it's deregistration certificate from Japan. Additionally, they'll may need the German registration, and maybe other documents.

Try to get everything in originals.

*****Above is assuming the vehicle is less than 10 years old. If it's more than 10 years old, you don't need to prove Type Approval.*****
|||||
Also if the car is more than 3 years old, before you register, you must pass it through the MOT test which checks if the car complies with "roadworthiness" and environmental standards.

|||||
Additionally, you must have BRITISH Insurance for registration, you must have forms from Customs, you must have money to pay for registration and licensing, and your (or the future owner's) ID with name and address.

A little research:

FROM DFT (DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT - UK):
"Recognition of Foreign Single Approvals

If your vehicle has been singly approved by another EEA Member State to standards equivalent to those of British SVA, it is eligible for a Ministers Approval Certificate on that basis.

You must provide evidence of the actual standards to which the vehicle was tested by or on behalf of the authorities in question."

So you must get apply for a "Minister's Approval Certificate" or MAC at the same office as applying for SVA.

Continuing with previous post:

___If you have a German equivalent to a SVA:
You'll have to pay for an E-Certificate which will get you the MAC. That costs 60 pounds during normal hours.

___If you have a German equivalent to a SVA, but doesn't cover all standards (the may be additional British standards):
You'll have to pay for an E-Cert. and a ESVA Test which costs 100 pounds with a model report or 90 pounds without a model report, both according to normal hours. Add another 20 pounds if you get it "Out of Hours".
