Have read a couple of threads here about cars being damaged in transit from Japan, and am wondering about insurance. I have been offerred insurance that covers against total loss only, but if the car is damaged during loading/unloading etc what can I do? Is there an insurance availbel either through teh shipping agent or elsewhere?

"Marine Insurance" will compensate for and loss or damage, but excluding any cost that you can recover from the carrier.
Unfortunately, like most insurance policies around, marine insurance can vary much between two policies. You have to make sure what you want to have covered is included in the policy. Marine covers not only while at sea though. It is for at any point of the transportation of a good.
