Im new to importing japanese cars. I am living in Dublin in Ireland and I am very interested in importing a number of cars. I would be much obliged if you could give me a rough idea of the price of importing a car into Ireland at Dublin port please.

I am very interested in a 2002 honda civic type R to give you an idea. This is of course if you would import into Ireland. Please let me know. Thank you.

VAT and import duty is calculation at the IRISH rate. I believe you get cheaper rates.

We do source vehicles to Dublin for motor traders.

There are vessels around 4-6 to Dublin.

Shipping for a Civic Type R to Dublin will cost around 550 GBP.

What are the import and Duty rates of Ireland then. Are they cheaper? And does it work out cheaper to ship to Ireland then to register in the UK?

Thanks

Slightly more at 21% I believe.

Please do contact your motoring government department to find out the exact rate.

All other costs to Northern Ireland are same as they need the same proceedures. MOT and SVA(if less than 10 years old).

For people wanting to import cars in to Ireland a helpful website in WWW.ROS.IE. Its the revenue webpage that you can check the vrt costs on a car. There is not vat only vrt needed on a car.For example my friend just brough a celica from the north. All his duties were 400 euro.A Type R civic 02 probably is up around 6000 euro cause of its age and Irish market value. But 6000 plus if you get the car for 10000 you are saving about 6000 on the market value.

Just to confirm the process to Ireland,

You do pay 10% customs, then 21% vat and then Vrt on the market value of the car in Ireland, ie 30% for a 2.0l car.

This applies to all cars being imported to Ireland from outside the EU.

Having said all that, you will still save money on Importing from Japan as opposed to buying in Ireland.
