Yea ive also been waiting 6 weeks for my car to shipped to Liverpool but it seems to me that Liverpool is not a very busy port and most ships sail to Southampton, so I asked for it to be shipped to Southampton but considering that japans on the other side of the world it was never gonna be a quick delivery anyway, auto advan say there doing there best so that’s all I can hope for. A train journey costs around £70 one way from Preston but would cost a lot more petrol on the way back!! Never the less it would hopefully be a very exciting day out, instead of waiting another agonizing month!!

This is not easy as you have to mot the car then apply for registration with takes 2-3 days, and as you cant get tax or insurance with out them you cant drive the car anywhere so I will ask for auto advan to sort out registration and mot for me, then I will get insured . On the day hopefully with all the documents I can tax the car and fit some cheep number plated from the nearest halfords. Or if it seems cheaper get the car delivered to me by a haulage company. That the plan anyway. Not easy is it.

Ive also asked for my car to go to liverpool, and am also unsure of what do do regarding getting it back home - its about 2 1/2 hours to liverpool. Really want to be able to drive it but not sure. Whats the process asking auto advan to do it all for me? Would be really great to be able to get up to liverpool and just drive it home. If auto advan esva, mot an dreg the car for me, all I would have to do is insure it to be able to drive???

When the car arrives just ask advan to register, esva and mot( not sure what this costs) once that’s done simply get insured and tax the car on pick up, the DVLA web site is very helpful.

Yea, advan should either tell you, or send you the new document through the post, getting tax at the nearest post office..

You won't find out your registration number until the V5 comes through. Mine took around 10 days after i gave in the forms at the DVLA office. Also, when you apply for registration you must purchase either 6 months or 12 months tax at the same time...the disc will arrive with the V5.

There are ceratin insurers that will give you a temporary policy based on the VIN number. You are legally allowed to drive an import from the port to a pre arranged ESVA/MOT test.

I have just won an auction and am having an estima shipped to Southampton. I have been talking today to SVA UK Ltd and the cost of the test, preparations, model report etc is coming in at £954 (need to check if that includes VAT). They are based in the docks at S'ton and can also do MOT. They would also do registration aswell but would charge £75 for the pleasure - doing that bit myself. With 2 weeks notice they can start some of the processes going. I'm only in Portsmouth so its handy for me but it seems they are competitive. Need to see what is required for registration in terms of process so will keep you posted and may be able to help out some of you from the homeland up north!
