I noticed most of the auctions have got A or R on they're gradings
are these Accidents and Repairs ? if so how good are the repairs ?
would they pass an SVA test?
After paying 110,000yen FOB charges ( im not sure if im right here but this charge gets the cars onto the ship in japan.....correct me if im wrong...im new to this ) when it reaches the port in the UK
what would i have to pay them for taking it off the ship ?
and do you have cars with fixed prices ?
Regards

Some vehicles are graded A or R.
Regarding quality of repair, in most cases they are done to a high standard.
Labor costs in Japan are very high and vehicles are well looked after if repaired.
SVA test has nothing to do with quality of repairs or bodywork. You can send a car in with many scratches and dents, as long as the vehicle passes emissions, speedo and safety checks there is no problem.
FOB costs are paid once only.
Cars with fixed prices please look at Advanpartners section on www.japaneseauctions.co.uk for Japanese cars at fixed wholesale prices and our hand picked car selection at www.autoadvan.co.uk.
Any questions just let me know! =) |

Thanks for your reply
But what does A or R mean ? Would you know how bad the repair was.
Dont mean to sound dull here but the FOB charge will get the car onto the ship into japan ?
Apart from the tests and registrations here in the UK, would there be any other charges from the time it left japan to the time its road legal ?
- unloading fees at the docks
- shipping fees
etc..........
Thanks for your help
Im interested in a RX7 but dont want to go buying somthing that has been in a bad smash or is about to fall apart.

fob is the cost of buying then loading the car onto a ship with all documentation - deregistration - translations etc.
after that is the cost of shipping and freight - per cubic meter.
this added to the fob is the cif (cost/insurance/freight)
on landing you have to pay 10% on this figure,
then 17.5% on that figure.
then a clearing fee of ?50 upwards.
collection from the port.
speedo and fog light.
maybe cat 2 for insurance.
under 10 years old sva.
after 97 accompanied by a model report.
mot.
registration ?38(you must tax at the same time and be insured) |

to be honest - i never consider anything less than grade 4.
when you are selling an import (or importing to own one) one of the main plus points is its condition - and they are in fabulous condition.
the last thing someone wants to see are signs of repair, as it might (quite rightly) set alarm bells ringing, ie how bad was it damaged? is the chassis damaged? is it legit?
there are very few repairs with no tell tale signs.
thats not to say they are not worth considering, but not for me. |

Accident vehicles can be sold in the UK but under law you should tell the buyer of the vehicle otherwise it is an offence if you know it is a damaged vehicle.
If you are importing sport cars over 10 years old can hard to find a non accident one.
The accident repaired ones usually have many upgraded parts and aftermarket bodykits on them and they (to some people) look much more appealing that your standard motors.
An accident repaired vehicle may have just had 1 panel replaced in some case. This is indicated by "xxx" on the vehicle diagram on the replaced panel. Chassis damage is usually rectified on repair on a Jig however of course, it will never be 100% like the unrepaired chassis.
Vehicle prices are cheaper to reflect this.
Yes, I agree you can not go wrong with an auction grade 4 vehicle. There will always be a sign of repairs unless the part has been completely replaced however on a professional inspection they can look at the chassis and tell it is a repaired vehicle.
It is however supprising, many people that are after the supra's, skylines and RX-7 sports cars do not mind accident repaired vehicles as what concerns them is the look of the vehicle, repaired or not. If a vehicle has 6000 GBP worth of kit and performance upgrades on it some people are happy even if repaired. There is a huge market for these vehicles.
At the end of the day, it comes down to the individual but you are closing off a section of the market you are selling to if you do purchase repaired vehicles to sell on. |

We are about to put this information next to the auction sheets however here are the details.
There is a little diagram on the vehicle to the right of every auction sheet.
The key is as follows:
A - This is a line scratch. A1 is a barely noticable mark, A2 is a scratch usually larger than 1 cm, A3 is larger than 1 cm.
B - This is given if that section of the vehicle needs repair work.
C - Corrosion. Corrosion on bodywork of some sort
M - This is a repaired mark.
W - This is a repaired wave. This is quite common on repaired vehicles, it is usually ok as long as there are not too many of these. One or 2 is acceptable.
R - Rust. Rust on that part of the vehicle.
P - That part of the body needs a repaint.
X - Bodypart needs replacing
XXX or XX - Bodypart replaced.
------ If there is a line on the diagram this usually shows where the scratch is on thie vehicle. (if noticable).
U - This is a dent. U1 is a very small barely noticable dent. U2 is a dent no larger than 1 cm. U3 is a larger dent than 1 cm.
I hope this helps!
Checks on repair work are automatically made in auctions where we attend. Not in the office at present but I can provide you with a list later.
If there is no huge problem, we will proceed to bid. By that we mean as long as vehicle is not giving out excessive fumes on start up, engine sounding unusual, Vehicle not idleing properly, oil around vehicle.... etc... basically all 'serious' problems. |

Usually if it has had a recent rebuild it will be in the auction sheet translation.
Another indicator is to look at the mileage of the vehicle. |

You would need to get a translation off us.
If it is done, will usually be in writing on the left.
If rx-7 has done 80,000 miles then you know it must have had one engine rebuild at least. |
