Hi, totally new to this, but seriously contemplating importing a Skyline into the UK.
If anyone can help with a couple of queries, I would appreciate it.
Firstly. Is there any sort of guarantee of the mechanical soundness of the car that you are bidding on. I can understand that you can be fairly confident of the bodywork and interior because of the grading system, but engine and transmission seem to be left in the lap of the gods!!
Also the prospect of bidding on a car in a foreign country, in a language you dont understand is quite daunting. Is there any real disadvantage to letting the people at Advan do it for me, within the constraints of my budget?
I would really appreciate it if anybody has any constructive advice.
Many thanks in anticipation. Paul. |

The only real disadvantage is not getting to inspect the car but in the past I have been 'advised' not to bid on numerous cars i've requested reports for. So they wont just sell anything.
With regards to mechanical anything major should be highlighted or mentioned on the auction sheet. I have just imported an R32GTR and can already tell the clutch is almost ready to go, but it has had to endure 60Kmiles so it is realistic! Just budget for services and all should be fine. |

Cheers for the reply.
Another thing that isn't clear, is how much the cars are actually selling for. The price indicated would appear to be a "starting price" and also no indicatioon of a time frame. Are they for auction that day?
I have a budget all up of about ?7000, and that has to allow for any work back here in the UK. I could do with knowing what budget to allow for the car, still allowing for all the other costs, and that really is going to determine what year and model. If I can determine that,it might be a good idea to let Advan source the car. What do you think? |

you could work backwards??? :D
?7000
- 17.5 vat (/47x7) = 1042 = 5958
- 10% duty(/100x10)=595=5363
so cif (cost/insurance/freight) =?5363
cif=1,100,000yen
so fob = 950,000yen
and raw auction price is = 850,000yen
this is very rough |

hmm.. yeah thats what I've attempted to do with the help of Ben (romeo42822 )and Michael (Msdunn) and masong
set yourself a limit in uk? then work backwards to get the equivalent yen bid price (then increase this to a level you can get a car you like and up your budget a little....normally works best )
Some real decent help from the users here! |
