Hi,
Thought I'd join and register as there seems to be nothing like this forum anywhere else..... really glad thereare actually people willing to share their importing experiences - and it seems like autoadvan are ones to guide and help in making it happen.
I've been into japanese cars for ages and am looking to get another to go along side my scoob as a project/track car and I have limited budget but it seems some deals can be had as I'm not overly fussy over scratches and scuffed bumpers etc as long ast the car's mechanically sound.
anyway looking forward to paying my deposit (maybe after xmas some time?) and spending some cash on a loverrly rwd car |

Nice to see ya! Yeah there are some nice cars to be had if you have a bit of patience, myself and a few others will tell you from our own experiences that it can be well worth the work and in a strange sorta way, actually quite enjoyable too! Good luck if you do go for it though!

Cheers Glen
i see you're pretty regular here so thanks for the welcome.
Well I'm just wondering if you knew when certain fees are paid?
I understand fob and agents fees etc would need to be paid pretty much straight away?
what about clearance and cat and customs? is that a few days before boat landing to clearing agent?
I'm thnking that there maybe a month or so to get that sum together i.e. following pay :D |

hi :)
thanks for the reponse.... thats what i wanted to hear
I take it you've imported a few cars as well?
anyway
I have some more questions I really wanted autoadvan to answer but other more seasoned importers might help
1) with the bids on cars - do we see the highest bids as they go up? So i know if it is worht bidding? I've seen starting bids etc but not sure if current highest bids are shown?? Thing is - I'm more used to fleabay so thats the only real online aucion i've experienced
2) what happens if 2 or more people from autoadvan are bidding on the same car? highest bid ones obviously but do the bidders know? autoadvan would know but it seems a little bit of a grey area i would assume
3) what reports on the car are done - do they check for mechanical problems or check oil condition and service history?
4) how long do the auctions last?
thats all for now many thanks !!

Hi Ver,
Responces to your questions :-
1. You set the MAX amount you wish to bid on any auction.
2. Bidders NEVER know who is involved in any auction.
3. The reports are cosmetic and a minimal mechanical overhall (by an Advan Rep) is carried out. They will let you know, but always take Oil, Water and a Razor Blade !! when u goto collect the car. Razor if for the china graph pen details over the windscreen. Well thats if your going to drive it back home like I did .
4. The auctions last about 5 mins, and are automated via a computer at advans office.
I have gained this knowledge through this site, and talking to Tony at Advan. So its all hear say but worked for me
Cheers

Hi Ben
Thanks for the response!
I've thanked you on your thread you started and also thanks again... :D
So the auction only last 5 mins? I was under the impressoin that they lasted for a number of hours and therefore on the website you'd see updated bids up until the end of the auction (hence my question about seeing the highest bids)
anyway more questions about the general process
1)so when they appear on the website when do they start? or have they started?
2)When do I bid?
3)do the cars that get low bids ever sell or do they remove it or not meet reserve?
really looking forward to going ahead with it but also wanted to see stocks of the partners site (understand it's down?)
anyway thanks again............. |

Hi Mate,
Well from what I know its NOT updated on Advan as prices are submitted.
1. They start around 11pm our time (so I am told by Advan).
2. B4 11pm on the day of the auction.
3. Far as I know there is NO reserve as I got my FTO for ?1,100 against a recomended bid of 230,000 yen (or near enough from what I can remember).
Yes your right the Advanpartner is still down .
Cheers

Hi Ver
Just a quick comment on point 3; I think there are reserves on some cars, based purely on the fact that my Estima (pictured left) went through the auctions 2 weeks running while i was getting my money sorted out, without being sold, and I won it on the 3rd week. Considering the condition it was in (ie. way better than i could have imagined!) I can't believe that it wouldn't have sold due to a lack of interest, so I think it must have had a reserve price, and my max bid just happened to meet it.
Also, you'll have to move reasonably quickly once you have a car in mind -you only have 2-3 days I think once one is listed before it goes under the hammer. So you will need to get a translation of the auction sheet arranged through our hosts here and if happy with what you see, give them the instruction to bid on it for you. Once that's done your next contact will be to hear if you were successful with your bid!
Cheers Glenn |

Cheers gents.
I'm really tempted and I know I'd need to move quick to get the bids in in fact i'm not really sure what is stopping me tbh as I have the cash... well most of it, i guess its that with xmas coming and another baby on the way maybe i should wait until after xmas.....
I wouldnt have thought so, but is there a maximum times I could bid on different cars? I mean if I'm not successful in winning an auction for the 5th time and continue in this trend would autoadvan stop?? (in fact that sounds pretty stupid......as obviously the bid is too low and i think i'd be able to deduce that )
how many times were you unsuccessful before winning? anyone?
Cheers guys! |

| First time novice, me - and won my first private import with my first bid. But obviously it depends on how realistic you are with your max bid compared to the car you're after. I did study similar cars for a few weeks beforehand to get an idea of how much they were going for - fortunately what i wanted seemed to be going through the auctions at prices i could afford. I don't think there's any limit on how many times you can bid but I do think you can only bid on so many cars at once, but you'd have to check on that. |

I did do some reading and on the website it does say you can bid on several cars but the one that you win first you are obliged to buy.
The limit of how many times you can bid is ?10 a bid ? so if that deposit runs out then you can't bid.....I would assume.
It's difficult to judge on price as either the cars are so rare and you never find many similar.... or there are so many and prices range from 100k to 400k.... bite bullet time would be the best way to find out i guess.
so who are the seasoned buyers here? :D |

So ........ how's the beast doing then masong?!!! You've been a bit quiet this week - or are you just out to play lots? :D
Speaking of updates, I've posted on my 'new arrival' thread today in case you wondered how the Estima is doing.
