I am interested in buying a 10 year old Landcruiser as I wish to avoid the SVA test in the UK.

There are a number of 1998 vehicles listed in the auctions - Is the 10 year rule based on the date of registration in Japan or the year of manufacture?

If based on the date of registration, how can I tell what this date is?

Presumably, the 10 year rule applies when it arrives in the UK, so an April 1998 car bought now at auction would be 10 years old when it arrives in the UK in May...

Can anyone offer any clarification on this?

Many thanks, James
