Just want to recount my experience with SVA.
Having imported a 2.7 petrol Surf I was gutted to find there is no protective steering model report in UK for that model.
After a lot of asking and banging head on wall, I found a bloke on a Hilux Surf user forum.
Basically for ?475 he got it registered and provided 6 months tax by using legal loop holes in the registration system. I reckon it wasn't too bad a deal considering costs
SVA ?180
Tax ?95
Registration ?38
Model report ?50
And there was no removing bits, transport to the SVA centre or disappointment with over zealous inspectors. Yep I was sceptical at first but he was good to his promise and the process took 2 weeks, all I had to do was get the MOT.
If anyone is interested his contact details, heres an extract from the mail he sent me giving details, etc
Just to confirm I can register your vehicle for you. I?ve been importing cars from Japan for the last 7 years and to date have shipped in excess of 500 vehicles from 800BHP Skylines to Figaro?s and everything in-between.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I pretty much know my way around the registration procedure and all the loopholes.
I require:
De-reg and translation
Customs form 386 or 389
Current MOT
Cheque for ?475 made payable to ?XL Autosport? This is my fee which covers registration, all paperwork and 6 months road tax.
Once I have everything it will take one week to get the vehicle on the road for you.
Any questions call me on 07740309077
My address:

Mark your letter ?FAO George Taylor ? Personal? and then it will be handed straight to me.

And for those interested
No, I am not related
No, I don't know the bloke personally
No, I am not on commission
Like others out there who have imported and found problems with the SVA' I am just passing on info that may save a lot of heartache or garaging the beloved motor until its 10th Birthday.
