If my bidding price is, for example 1,000,000Yen is the bidding carried out in stages up to 1,000,000 or is a bid of 1,000,000 put on straight away?

They input your bid into the AUTOMATED auction system, with some lea-way, I got mine for 20,000 yen more than my chosen bid of 100,000.
