Dear All
I have seen many many posts regarding the costs from winning the bid to the delivery. I have calculated the below for an FTO. I believe these costs are rough but they should give you a really good guide.
Item No. Item Name Estimated Price (Yen) Estimated Price (?)
1 Initial Purchase Price [a] ?200,000.00 or ?1,000.00
2 Advan Fees (b) ?80,000.00 or ?400.00
3 FOB Japan [c] ?110,000.00 or ?550.00
4 Shipping Fee [d] ?100,000.00 or ?500.00
5 Extra Transportation Fees [e] ?20,000.00 or ?100.00 (If Appl)
6 Duty (10%) [f] ?30,000.00 or ?150.00
7 VAT (17.5%) [g] ?59,500.00 or ?297.50
8 Shipping Agents Fee [h] ?34,000.00 or ?170.00
9 Marine Insurance [i] ?10,000.00 or ?50.00
10 Wire Transfer Fee [j] ?5,000.00 or ?25.00
Total To Arrive In The UK ?628,500.00 or ?3,142.50
11 Conversion Cost [k] ?10,000.00 or ?50.00
12 MOT [l] ?8,000.00 or ?40.00
13 DVLA Registration [m] ?7,200.00 or ?36.00
14 Number Plates [n] ?4,000.00 or ?20.00 (From Pete See General Chat)
15 Road Tax [o] ?18,600.00 or ?93.00
Total To Make Roadworthy ?47,800.00 or ?239.00 (Approx)
Total Price On The Road ?676,300.00 or ?3,381.50
If the extra transportation costs are not valid then please delete the extra ?100.
Regarding the VAT & Duty please see the table below, this table refers to the calculations above.
Duty (10%) [f] = a+d
VAT (17.5%) [g] = a+d+i+f
The rate used for these calculations is 200 Yen : 1 ?.
If anyone wants to see the original excel file please PM me and i will send it to you.
If anyone has any questions please let me know.
Thanks. :D |

Hi Iqbal,
Thats a very good breakdown of costs for importing an FTO (like mine) .
I am pleased to say my figures were about the same bar some ?280 saving personally. The FTO conversion (fogs and speedo dial) can be done for ?20 - If you have the patience and time?, and I was lucky enough to pay ?250 Advan service charge - in their May special offer.
One thing I would like to point out that Shipping charges are calculated in DOLLARS not YEN. I see you have a rough breakdown of ?500 for shipping but I paid ?400.07 for mine (the Dollar exchange rate was good on the day of conversion :D :D ).
Apart from that SPOT ON MATE - nice one :D !
Cheers

Hi Ben
Your right about the calculations, you got a good deal on the charges regarding Advan.
I wish they could do it again im sure it will be a good thing to do.
Thanks. |

Yeah I missed out on that offer by about 4 days - oh well! But other than that I've been well pleased with my buy. Well done with the figures too - they look good to me and should help any new buyers.
Cheers Glenn |

CHeck the rate with the bank you intend to use and tell them what it's for ie. don't just ask for an exchange rate to Yen as it'll be different to that used to send money abroad. They are the only ones that can tell you - i made the mistake of using a Thomas Cook exchange rate to give me a rough idea, and ended up about ?250 out of pocket!!! |

I believe this stands for "Free on board" - and as far as I know it is basically a charge to get the car onto a ship (but not necessarily including the transportation to the port) with all the de-registration docs and other related admin charges. I'm sure someone else might be able to give you a more complete & accurate description though! :)

ok - here goes -
in the example above - the fob has been represented seperately from the purchase price. and advan fee.
usually the fob - or free on board is every cost involved in getting the vehicle onto a ship.
the 'free' part just means that the sellers fulfills his obligations to the buyer when it crosses the ships rails, and therefore is 'free'
the duty will be paid on cif - cost insurance freight.
the fob represents the cost part.
if the seller invoices seperately for their services, then the duty, and subsequently the vat will be marginally less
now i'm out of breath |
