Hi folks, I'm Tom. Almost ready to put a bid down on a Galant VR4 but just need to iron out a few quibbles.
Probably a daft question but how do folks get their cars back home if the import arrives with no reg plates? Do I get details before it arrives so I can create reg plates, etc? I've heard of 'trade plates' but I don't know what they are.
Might be a sticking point as the car will land in Newcastle and I'm in Glasgow! Not exactly like I can risk driving it or anything daft! Also would I need anything upon pickup, like ID or certain documents, etc?
Anybody been in this situation? Any advice would be appreciated!
Also, I've been told I can pay it up in installments - car deposit, then payment for car, then payment for shipping upon arrival. Anybody able to clarify this for me?
Thanks in advance! |

Sorry folks - just read the earlier comment reccomending getting it low loaded and delivered to me. Anybody know any good transport companies who'd be able to move it from Newcastle to Glasgow or even a rough estimate of a price for this service?
Would there be any problems in moving the vechical away from the dock upon landing to a local Newcastle garage where it could be MOT'd and (with the permission of the garage) left on their property until the registration process was complete? Has anybody ever tried this - can anybody see any obvious problems with this idea?
Like I mentioned, I'm new so I'm still exploring my options.
Thanks for any input. |

Hi Tomaski,
Just give the shipping agents a call and let them know when they need to release it and they will take it from there.
If the garage is VAT registered and you have booked an appointment there should be no problems (you are covered on their insurance).
Delivery from Newcastle to Glasgow should be around £160 from the port. |

Thank you once again for the speedy reply.
I presume I will be given the details on the shipping agents once the car is bought and being moved across to the UK?
If I choose to bring it up to Glasgow for it's MOT - who would you reccomend I contact to arrange delivery from Newcastle to Glasgow? Or would autoadvan take care of that? |
