|
|
Hi Folks,
I am just wondering how the DVLA chose which year or age related plate to register a fresh import car?
I mean do they or in fact can they give you a plate related to year of manufacture because normally a plate relates to the first year of Uk registration? Or do they have to chose the same year it was first registered in a foregin contry?
I am not trying to make a car look newer than it is here. What I am after doing is making it older by trying to register the car on a plate related to its manufacture date.
In my case as an example....
If a Lancia is built in Italy in say late 1992 and then imported from there into Japan. It is then sat in a showroom for some time and first bought and registered in 1993. This car is infact a 1992 car but first year of registration will be 1993 and so the reg documents will replect the latter.
What I would hope to do is track down the original build date through the cars VIN plate and then use this to register the car as a 1992 model. This in turn would qualify me for classic insurance as the car is in fact 15 years old even though its only been registered for 14.
Do you see hwere I am coming from now?
So, any ideas on the above and if my example would be allowed by the DVLa here??
CheeRS for now

Every vehicle imported or experted into Japan needs a registration or deregistration certificate.
The realy date of manufacture is found out from that and it will be that plate.
i.e. if your vehicle was manufactured in 1987 and was imported into Japan 1994 then imported into the UK 2007, your vehicle will be registered on a 1987 plate. |

Thats excellent news mate, thanks for the clarification. This should make my life a whole lot easier on the insurance side of things.
Just for peoples info...
If I insure a 14 year old Lancia Integrale it is looking to cost me around £650 for the year. If the car is a year older then that figure drops to around £150 for the same cover. Quite a saving to be had in my opinion?
Let the search continue.

| That is quite a saving. Is the car covered as a classic at 15 years or older? Or does it depend on the insurer? |
