Scud,

The exact wording on the e-mail was :-

25,000 Yen (Extra transportation fees from this auction)

It does say on the site that some auctions will incur extra transport charges.

Apart from that everything else you wrote is correct.

UPDATE (its all hapenning here !)

Right people I just recieved an e-mail from the office and I quote :-

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear B,

We have received your fax with thanks.

We will inform Japan and once payment is confirmed in Japan, we will confirm further details with you.

Thank you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PAYMENT / COST UPDATE

PAYMENT TO JAPAN

220,000 Yen (Winning auction bid)
110,000 Yen (FOB Japan)
25,000 Yen (Extra transportation fees)
10,000 Yen (Marine Insurance)

364,000 Yen = ? 1,874.67 (HSBC CURRENCY RATES - 01/06/05)

From here on its all in ?'s ONLY

?1874.67
? 21.50 (Bank Transfer Charge) - Got a Better RATE :D
? 250.00 (Advan Service Charge - May 2005 Offer - Usually ?400)
? 41.00 (Full Plate KIT - Speed + other relavent dials)

GRAND TOTAL (so far) ?2187.17

Don't forget that in addition to the MOT, insurance, DVLA registration, import charges, VAT, shipping, and docking Fees you still have to get number plates (?15). I know this ?15 dont seem like much but hey I am being the Guniie Pig. I thought it might be worth a mention as its still a cost to be added to your final figure.

I bought the speedo dials today (Blue version) so hence that is why they are included in my CURRENT total price. This kit of dials means NO other speedo / dial conversions are necessary - which is suppose to be cheaper (So I am told !? - I shall let u know on this one).

Well nothing else to add at the monent, I just hope that I am covering all the points people would raise or think about.

Looking forward to more pics, and shall share em with you when they hit my e-mail inbox.

B

BIG THANKS again to http://www.wickedwelcomes.co.uk for the FREE image hosting (Now and more to come :D ) - thanks GUYS.

romeo - realistically you are looking at

(cost)2146.17+ (shipping)558.61 = 2704
+10% (270)= 2974
+17.5% (520) = 3494
+dial kit (41) = 3535
+port fees = (50?) = 3585
+ mot (35?) = 3620
+12 months tax + reg (208) = 3828
+cat 2 for insurance (90?) = 3918
collection from the port?

is this around the figure you were working on?

Msdunn,

I am not sure that we payed 27.5% on the shipping when we got the Delica or the Pajero. I could be wrong, so I am going to have to locate the paperwork on that one to check it out.

Good point though you even got me thinking now.

As for the total cost we shall see, I will of course keep everyone updated.

We if we go by msdunn's figures your max bid should be 200,000 Yen (about a Grand).

I have yet too see the total cost but to be honest that why I started this thread really to let everyone know.

Regarding the total cost I really dont care. I Just finished working 7 years on call 24/7 (in the same car) so its my pat on the back no matter what.

Saw it and liked it so had to have a go (nothing ventured - nothing gained). If anything unexpected happens or the cost does sprial out of control at least you and hopefully others can learn from it.

Hard lesson for me to learn (using this company) but helps others out at the same time. Before anyone asks the reason we decided to try www.japaneseauctions.co.uk is they appear cheaper. They also offer other included benifits (Admin Charge).

Hi mate - I'm in the same position as you - a first timer, but a little further down the line, so it was nice to read your comments on how you're getting on. The car looks nice as well - you must be well pleased! Mine is (I think!) somewhere at sea not far from Japan at the moment, and I can't wait 'til it arrives either! I'll be heading down to Southampton as soon as I'm allowed to have a look at my new Toy(ota Estima) - at the moment I'm trying to find things to take my mind off it 'til it arrives!!!!! I'll keep checking back now and then to see how you're getting on! Cheers Glenn

I can't wait - I'll be down there hassling the customs guys to get it through qwik so's I can start work on all my plans for it!
Keep them posts coming - I'll be checking back every now and then to see how you're getting on! Cheers Glenn

Hi Ben
You're doing a great job with the updates! It looks really nice - if i didn't have the kids to consider I might be tempted by an FTO like that too! I found the same thing - the extra batch of pics they sent me made me feel quite good about things!
As regards costs, we put in a max bid of I think 1,850,000 Yen after watching this car go through a couple of auctions unsold! Which was handy really as I hadn't quite got the funds in place when it first came up for grabs. So I was well pleased when at the first attempt we won it for 1,623,000! As it's under 10 years old it needs an ESVA once it's here, so should pan out - I hope! - at around ?13,000. Watch the exchange rates carefully, and don't make the mistake I did of using someone like Thomas Cook to get those exchange rates - the banks are very different! I came up about ?300 worse off after delaying the FOB payment by just a couple of days to see how the rates moved!
Barratt Shipping have been really helpful up to this point, and I'd recommend them. I didn't take it as gospel that they were the ones to use, and had enquired with other shippers, but they won comfortably - I've been dealing with Kerrie, she's been a great help and source of advice. As I said in my earlier post, it's just a waiting game now until the documents appear in the post just before the car arrives.
Oooh 'eck - 3 weeks to go!!!! :D

By the way - in answer to your other question, it's a 2002 car, with just under 16,000km on the clock. I hope to have saved around 3-4 grand once the dust settles! Plenty to spend on ICE, wheels, etc. methinks!!!

Hey Glenn

Cheers dude, I just thought it might help a few people take the plung and use this Co.

3 weeks well your gonna start getting those sweaty palms now, lets hope the DVLA pull their finger out !.

I must admit I did not even look at the exchange rates (did not even think - might of made a mistake there), I just went straight to the bank. It just seemed alot easier and quicker as you are told to pay it quickly.

I am glad you recommended Barratt Shipping as this is the company I am using too.

I am sure all will go well, and your gonna have to let us all know when u get it.

Cheers

Ben

** UPDATE **

Sorry I forgot to post last week that Japanese Auctions returned the rest of my security deposit.

Note they did send an e-mail and requested my personal bank details via return. I am not happy about sending that type of info over the net. I printed out the e-mail, wrote in the info, and faxed it to the office.

Just a word of advice as you can get carried away and thoughts turn to the new car. Its easy to make a costly mistake by transmitting your bank details in an e-mail or via unsecured site.

This is usually account number, sortcode and name.

If this is inconvenant we can paypal the funds over or as romeo said you can fax it over to us.
