Hi Masong!,

I am going to get slated for this (especially in light of pump prices), but I dont pay for fuel at the moment its all covered by Exon Shocked .

Your welcome for the info about the dials, and do you have a picture or two of your new ride ?. I have been so busy the last week I have lost track on the threads Crying or Very sad .

Saying that I shall have a quick look now but have to leave for London in Five mins Surprised .

Look forward to a photo (if I cant find em).

Cheers

Ben

Just waiting for detailed stills, wont be long now! I came up trumps working on an exchange rate of 190 for the whole process from the start, but on the day the rate when transferred was 201JPY! Laughing

I am 80% there with regards to importing a Supra or RX7...this thread has been very helpful to me. Perhaps someone can help me with this though, as a business owner, would I be able to claim back the 17.5% VAT I am to be charged? It would make more sense to import if I could do this...thanks in advance. great thread btw chaps!

if you claim the vat back then the vehicle will become an asset of the company, as you are claiming vat on a purchase, this might not be beneficial in light of company car tax etc.

Wow great thread romeo, really makes it clear to me now what is involved in importing a jap car.

I am hoping to do it in the next couple of years with an EK Civic Type-R
(they were made from 96>00 so just about to hit that magic 10 years).

One thing you could help me with is who is the best company to speak to regarding importing new performance parts for cars (specifically honda), and used parts like engines etc?

Also very interested in your PRDS system, I have ipaq based GPS in two of my cars, (I'm also building a P4 Media Center into my current project Honda) and was thinking about setting up a tracking system via extracting the GPS location and uploading it to a website via FTP over GSM/GPRS using my mobile
Your system seems to be a more integrated, secuirty orientated solution, wheras what I want to do was more for the novelty factor! Good Work and good luck with the final product - I will keep an eye out for when it is done :)

Many thanks
Mark

I'm reeeally sorry for saying this, but do you have a list of all the prices involved in this?

It takes absolutely ages to scrawl throught these 13 pages.

I'm looking at buying a mazda lantis coupe which is only like 180,000 yen (?900) but it seems like the fees push it nearer to ?3000 which I just cannot afford

That's a shame, Adam, but yes unfortunately for you Iqbals' figures were pretty much spot on - a car costing around ?1k in Japan will have set you back around ?3k by the time it's on the road here. Try looking at the stock section as I think they're sometimes a little bit cheaper on there.
Good luck!

Thanks for a gr8 thread.

Im looking to buy a car for about ?1000 ish, import it and sell it privatly in the uk, only i think ill need about ?2500 for all the other costs aswell, which seems a bit stupid on a car that costs less than half that amount.....

What do you think youd get for your FTO if you were to sell it here in the UK ?

Romeo

Just wanted to express my gratitude for starting your thread that shows all steps involved with importing with autoadvan.

I was reluctant to do this at first but now with your guide I'm pretty confident in doing so.

I wanted syphon out the stuff unrelated to the process from your thread as I want to print it out! Rolling Eyes and wanted to know if you got round to producing a document that follows the whole process...... I think you mentioned a pdf??

anyway thanks agin for updates and please let me know about the ocument.

quick question............ when is the vat and custom s paid??

Hi my old china! Good to see you're back & have been busy! Starting a new job myself on Monday, so things might speed up on the Estima now.
Guess the FTO is still doing its thing down in Dorset then? :D

Talk soon, cheers Glenn.

Hi Ver,

Glad you have found the thread of use, and with regards to the document I shall look it up. Its on a hard drive somewhere, its basically a short version of the thread to save people wading through 14 pages of messages.

Oh the Vat & Custom charges are paid on arrival of your car BEFORE you pick it up from your chosen port. If you use Barratt Shipping (like myself) then its just a telephone bank transfer but this time to a UK bank (So NO charges!!). Well thats what I did as I could not arsed to walk down the bank.

I shall look out the document and PVT you a hyperlink on my web site to download it.

Cheers

Ben

if you could do that, that would be sweet!

back on topic............

how is the car? I had an fto as my first import and it was a black 95 GPX tip......... I so wanted a manual VersionR but couldn't find one and ended up getting a GPX tip as I test drove it and found it pretty quick. It was pretty standard apart from a TRUST exhaust. Ever since then I've not looked back in terms of japanese cars.......... I did want to import one myself through the auctions but never had the luxury of doing without a car or having enough to buy one without selling until now (well....... for a cheap old rwd car Wink )

Hi again Ver,

Yeah all is well with the car :D :D , and added a few more Xtras, just have to find the time and get some shots online. My other half says I have gone back to a mental age of 18 but hey she still wont drive it - laugh. She dont know which button to push for what accessory, so its probably for the best.

Yeah I know what you mean about the manual version, as I held off and got a MT. Did not really want the FAT (less control, and of course the show off ability Embarassed ).

We have also imported other cars from different internet companies like our Pajero SWB 2.5 TD and Delica (PUC). Got the Paj for a bit off road fun and the PUC (Piss Up Carrier) for when we all go out for the eve. I have to be honest and say I cant beat the FTO.

We were going through the net earlier and have decided on a RX-? for the new year. Other half wants one for a bit of style so her wish is commanded (never pays to go against the misses!! Wink ).

Anyway I shall sort out that file for you during the early part of next week.

Cheers

Ben

P.S. What the Misses wants (and she bid on it 20 mins ago - not through advan I must add) :-
